Customer Reviews
I have a Droid X, and like most smart phones out there, you can use voice commands with the phone. Say "call home" to call home, or "call office", etc. Well, you can use the CommandOne to send voice commands to the phone - press the call button, and you'll hear your phone's prompt to speak a voice command. Say "call home" (assuming you programmed that into your phone" and the phone will dial.) The phone stays in my pocket or on my belt - I just tap the call button and speak a command. Of course you can just say "call" followed by the phone number. The point is, you don't have to touch your phone. That's a feature of your phone, and the CommandOne fully supports it.
Sure, you may get some strange looks walking around spurting commands, but it's just so techy. 20 years ago you would have undergone psychiatric evaluation - now it's normal.
For incoming calls the CommandOne will speak the caller ID of the incoming call. You say either "answer" or "ignore" - Ignore will send the call to voicemail.
The charger uses the standard mini-USB cable - the same one the Droid uses (and many other newer phones) so you can use the same charger cable (USB from your laptop, for example) - just plug it in and go. An A/C charger is included - so you can use it with the CommandOne or your cell phone! Nice additional benefit.
When you first turn on the CommandOne you hear a battery status - the CommandOne actually tells you how full the battery is (there's also a colored status LED.) Not paired, or cell phone Bluetooth not on? The CommandOne will give you instructions. After you pair, make sure the phone's Bluetooth is on before the CommandOne is turned on - then you won't hear the instructions- You'll hear "xxx connected". For example, I hear "Droidx connected" - yes, it tries to pronounce Droidx.
It's also a wireless headset for listening to music. Pretty much all smart phones support Bluetooth music - the phone will use the CommandOne as a mono headset. Not the best quality, but not bad. The music will pause when a call comes in or when you tap the call button, then resume when you're done.
Texting: You need to download the free App for your phone (Droid or BlackBerry.) After you install this, the phone will read text messages to you and allow you to reply, automatically converting your verbal reply to a text message.
I did have the phone lock up on me a couple of times over a few days - just power-cycling the headset fixed this. This only happened with using the voice commands - my Droid also locks with voice commands without the CommandOne connected, so I'm prone to blame the Droid, not the CommandOne.
Comfort - There are four additional ear adapters included, and you really should try a few different ones. After finding the best fit I was able to wear the CommandOne all day with no discomfort. It's much smaller and lighter than my Jabra - and can be worn with glasses (unlike my Jabra.)
Another cool feature - you can pair two different phones.
Range - I left the phone in my gym bag and walked over 20 feet away - never lost the connection.
Yes it's a bit pricey, but it is very lightweight and feature packed. Well worth the price!
My husband works as an over-the-road truck driver. We communicate a lot over our cell phones and rely heavily on our bluetooth headsets. Problem is, the cheaper headsets, while OK if you're in a quiet background, are notorious for picking up irritating background noise. The voice quality is not that great either as it gets muddled into the background noise.
Enter Motorola's CommandOne Bluetooth Headset. WOW! I had the opportunity to use this first. I found it much more comfortable to wear and easier to use. I enjoy how the device tells when the status of the bluetooth. I also like how it respond to my voice commands to pick up the phone when it's ringing. It easily connected and worked smoothly with my Samsung Flight A797. I really enjoyed this headset while I had it.
Eventually, I gave the Motorola Bluetooth Headset to my husband. I figured this would be the true test on the sound and voice quality of this device. He uses it with his iPhone 4. WOW AGAIN! This bluetooth made a huge difference in the quality of our communication! Way less background noise and more of my husband's voice. It works so well that there are times I ask if he's still there. HUGE difference from the cheap headset he had the last time. (I hated that thing!)
However, these are the problems my husband has encountered. The Motorola seems to take longer to connect/reconnect to his iPhone 4. (I did not have this problem with my Samsung, so I'm wondering if the issue is with the iPhone itself.) The rubber piece that covers the charging port falls off. (My husband, despite being a truck driver, is not rough with his stuff and neither is he heavy-handed. This is why I knocked of a star on this otherwise 5-star device.) Other than that, he's been very pleased with his headset. He enjoys his conversations more with way less stress and frustration.
The Motorola CommandOne is truly a worthwhile headset consider. It truly does a better job of blocking out background noise while letting in the user's voice. Yes, there are other good features on this headset, but the quality of the voice alone makes this device a winner.
